Sébastien Lescop guest on #JMLECO on BFM Business
At a time when the cloud market is booming, French players need to take their place on the world stage. Cloud Temple is positioning itself as a technological pioneer in the sovereign cloud. Its Managing Director, Sébastien Lescop, talks to Nicolas Doze on BFM's #JMLECO programme about the challenges of digital trust.
What services does Cloud Temple offer its customers?
Cloud Temple offers a sovereign cloud platform that meets the most stringent security requirements. The SecNumCloud qualification issued by ANSSI attests to this. We have also chosen to use this standard in the design of our entire cloud offering, because we are convinced that a truly industrial approach is the only way to make digital security accessible. We also have 200 engineers, experts and architects to support our customers in their digital transformation and adoption of the cloud.
Why is it necessary for French cloud players to carve out a place for themselves in this growing market?
The cloud market is experiencing very strong growth, but French players are still confined to niches that are shrinking in relative terms. The challenge is to create genuine French alternatives at European level to the American hyperscalers, capable of protecting the sensitive data of public bodies and strategic entities, while supporting them in their digital transformation.
Critics tend to say that France and Europe have missed out on the cloud. But we are only at the beginning of the adventure, and the potential remains colossal. Only 22% of France's infrastructure is currently outsourced. By 2030, the European cloud market will have reached the same level as the telecoms market, i.e. €300 billion. We urgently need to build real alternatives that guarantee the strategic autonomy of our businesses. There is a place for us, and Cloud Temple wants to be a major player in European digital sovereignty.
You have a number of ambitious projects, including the development of a trusted French PaaS and a trusted SaaS marketplace. Why are they strategic?
We are determined to become the technological pioneer of the trusted cloud. Our infrastructure services are divided into several families: IaaS (infrastructure as a service), PaaS (platform as a service) and SaaS (software as a service). We are building a cloud that meets every need. We are one of the first trusted IaaS providers in France, and from February 2024 we will be the first French cloud provider to offer a trusted PaaS.
Software publishers handling sensitive data and wishing to continue working with the State must obtain SecNumCloud qualification, relying on platforms that are already qualified to speed up the process. In this respect, we are in discussions with around thirty publishers to offer a trusted marketplace for SaaS application services.
Is eco-responsibility also an important issue for you?
The digital and ecological transitions are inextricably linked. The government wants trusted platforms that take part in a green digital industry. The real European alternatives will be committed companies, and that's the case with Cloud Temple. We manage the reduction of the carbon footprint of our solutions, and we help our customers to consume sensibly.
